This chapter brings us to one of the simplest and most profound truths in all of Scripture: God is love. John reminds us that we don't love God because we figured it out on our own, but because He first loved us, sending His Son so that we might live through Him. And that love doesn't stop with us. It moves through us, toward one another and out into the world. As John puts it, perfect love casts out fear.
Whatever you're carrying into this weekend, my prayer is that you'll come ready to be reminded of how deeply you are loved, and stirred to love others the same way.
