As we continue the Advent series "Unexpected", I want to give you a little glimpse of where God is leading us. Last week we looked at Luke 2: 1-7 and "An Unexpected King". This study will look at Luke 1: 26-38 and "An Unexpected Plan".
When we come to Luke 1, we discover something so beautiful and so typical of the way God works: His greatest plans often arrive in the most ordinary places, and through the most ordinary people. Mary wasn’t royalty. She wasn’t well-known. She was a teenage girl in a small, overlooked town… and yet heaven interrupted her quiet life with a plan that would change the world forever.
Isn’t that just like the Lord? He steps into the places we least expect… and invites us to trust Him in ways that push us out of our comfort zone. In this study we’ll see that God’s plan for Mary startled her at first. It defied her expectations and even her understanding. But the angel reminded her of something we all need to hear again: “For nothing will be impossible with God.”
What looked impossible became reality—not by human effort, but by the power of the Holy Spirit. And the same God who brought life into Mary’s womb is the God who brings new life into our hearts today. But perhaps the most amazing part of Mary’s story is her response. After all the fear, all the questions, all the uncertainty, she simply said: “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to Your word.”
What a picture of surrender. No bargaining. No conditions. Just a heart willing to be obedient to the will of God. God still interrupts ordinary lives with extraordinary plans.
He still leads us down paths we wouldn’t have chosen. He still calls us to trust Him when the way feels unclear. In this study we will talk about what it looks like to say "yes" to God — fully, freely, and courageously—just as Mary did. And we’ll look at how God confirms His faithfulness when we choose to trust Him.
