Join us for the next four weeks as we walk through an Advent series titled: "Unexpected: When God Works Differently Than We Expect” Here is what you can expect over the next four weeks:
Week 1 — An Unexpected King
Week 2 — An Unexpected Plan
Week 3 — An Unexpected Joy
Week 4 — An Unexpected Rescue
First, if you have never celebrated Advent, let me take a minute to explain. Advent is the season of the year leading up to Christmas. The word advent itself means “arrival” or “an appearing or coming into place.” Many Christians often speak of Christ’s “first advent” and “second advent”; that is, His first and second comings to earth. His first advent would be the Incarnation—Christmastime. During the second advent, like we studied previously in Matthew 25, Jesus will come in all of His glory as judge and king. The Advent season lasts for four Sundays. It begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas. Advent officially ends on Christmas Eve. So, Advent is the season of preparation, and Christmas is the season of celebration.
We will start by looking at Luke 2:1-7. In these verses, God weaves His perfect plan through political chaos, inconvenience, closed doors, and a humble manger. It’s a reminder that even when life feels confusing, God is not improvising. He is present, He is working, and He is writing a story far greater than anything we could imagine.
If you’ve ever wondered why your life doesn’t look the way you thought it would, or if you’re walking through a season where obedience feels costly or doors seem to be closing, I believe this message will be an encouragement.
Together we will see how God often does His greatest work in the most unexpected places — just as He did the night An Unexpected King entered our world.
