we will return to our study through Colossians and begin in Colossians 2:6–7:
“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.”
Paul has spent the opening part of this letter showing us who Jesus is. Christ is our Creator, Sustainer, Savior, and Lord. He has rescued us from darkness, reconciled us to God, and given us everything we need for a life of faith.
Now Paul turns from what we believe to how we live.
His message is simple: The same way we received Christ is the way we continue walking with Christ—by grace, through faith, trusting Him every day.
Paul describes the life of a growing believer with four powerful words:
-
Rooted
-
Built up
-
Established, and
-
Abounding
We have been rooted in Christ like a tree firmly planted in good soil. From there, God continues building our lives, strengthening us in biblical truth, and producing a heart that overflows with thanksgiving.
The Christian life is not about constantly searching for something beyond Jesus. It is about growing deeper in the One who has already saved us.
Some of us may be walking through difficult circumstances right now. Storms have a way of revealing where our roots are planted. The deeper our lives are rooted in Christ, the more firmly we can stand when everything around us feels uncertain.
