James 5:1-6

We continue our journey through the book of James as we move into James 5:1–6.

At the end of chapter 4, James confronted the arrogance of living as though tomorrow belongs to us. He reminded us that life is “a mist” — fragile, temporary, and completely dependent on God.

Now James turns toward another danger that can quietly capture the heart: trusting in wealth, comfort, success, and earthly security instead of teh Lord.

This passage is about much more than money.

It’s about what we truly trust in.

Why do possessions and success so easily make us feel secure?
How can good gifts from God slowly become idols in our hearts?
What does it look like to enjoy God’s blessings without allowing them to replace dependence on Him?

James speaks with both warning and mercy as he calls believers to examine what is really ruling the heart.

And honestly, this passage could not be more relevant for the world we live in today.

We’ll also look at why James uses the powerful title “Lord of hosts,” and how that truth brings both comfort and conviction.
