The Truth about Temptations

oin us as we continue our study through James. We will be looking at James 1:13–27, and the passage confronts us with a question that is both simple and deeply searching. What is actually shaping the direction of my life — my desires, or God’s Word? James explains that when temptation pulls at us, it doesn’t come from God. Instead, it grows out of our own desires. Left unchecked, those desires lead us down a path that eventually produces sin and, ultimately, death. But in the very same passage, James points us to something far more powerful — the Word of God planted within us, which has the ability to reshape our hearts and redirect our lives. That raises a question each of us should wrestle with: Is God’s Word truly governing my life, or am I mostly following my own instincts and impulses? James then takes it even further. He tells us that real faith cannot stop at hearing the Word. It must move into doing the Word. Otherwise, we risk deceiving ourselves. A faith that is alive begins to show up in very practical ways — in how we control our speech, how we care for those in need, and how we live in a world that constantly pulls us away from Christ. In other words, James presses us to ask something deeper: Is my faith something I simply believe… or something that is actually transforming how I live? Join us as we will walk through this passage together and see how James helps us recognize the difference between a faith that merely listens and a faith that truly follows.
